UK hampers are gifts that are often presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long history in Western culture and, before, was done as a giving gesture, using the hamper to give food and other home necessities to the deserving. The basket the hamper was presented in was also carefully chosen as it was a helpful household item that could be used and reused.

In later times, UK hampers have come to be less presents of necessities and more presents of little treats, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on premium items such as gourmet jams, quality chocolates, exotic coffee beans, expensive wines and other premium items that can be enjoyed as a indulgence and will store long enough for the recipient to relax when using the item.

There has also been a rising tendency to make specialist UK hampers - wine hampers that are full with a different range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more new development and are filled not with food but with essential and wanted items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only restricted by your imagination!

The flexibility of wine hampers is why it makes such a pleasing present. They can be modified to any person and can be filled with anything that would please the recipient. When picking the hamper you want to give, give careful consideration to what items the recipient enjoys - are they a wine connoisseur? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a food lover? Then fill the hamper with quality food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with useful baby products.

UK hampers can be given for any event - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Christmas.

The Christmas hamper has become popular and, in an intriguing twist, people are buying Christmas UK hampers to use for themselves instead of as a present for other people. Often packed with special Christmas treats such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Christmas pudding and even turkey, they are purchased by individuals to be used over the holiday season. Many wine hampers are purchased on a payment scheme over the year and then enjoyed for the Christmas period, helping individuals pay for the cost of the special Christmas treats desired over the Christmas period.

There are many of companies that concentrate in selling hamper gifts and lots of them can be found quickly and easily on the net. Many of them will have pre-packed UK hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may allow you to modify a hamper and fill it with items of your choice. Most companies will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and personal present.

Of course, you don’t have to use a business to make a perfect hamper and it can be even more considerate to create your own. When creating a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Use helpful items and special items that your special someone might not think to buy for themselves, to make it even more of a treat. UK hampers also work best when filled with items that won’t spoil easily, such as red wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on filling in items that have to be refrigerated or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is sent as quickly as possible and make sure your special someone understands that the items must be used quickly.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you were to cross a blackberry and a raspberry? The answer, which we have thanks to a couple of Scottish botanists, is the tayberry a large reddish purple berry.

Originally cultivated in 1962 by David Mason and David Jennings of the Scottish Crops Research Institute, Invergowrie, Scotland the tayberry is a wonderful cross-involving a raspberry and a blackberry. It is a summer berry usual baring fruit in the months of July and August and is rather delicious both cooked and eaten fresh of the cultivated shrub in the genus Rubus of the family Rosaceae.

It both tastes and smells just like a blackberry. Taking a bite into one, you may notice that there is a slight tart flavor to it. There is more then one way that you can enjoy this wonderful meticulously merged fruit.

Tayberries make a wonderful pie and are delicious eaten fresh. Tayberry jam is great for toast or sandwiches. In season, perhaps you may want to bake a tayberry pie to take along on a picnic.

Try adding tayberries to a bowl of yogurt or ice cream, or incorporate them into fruit salads and smoothies for something a little different. In fact, you can use tayberries anywhere you would ordinarily use blackberries or raspberries. Tayberries are an exciting addition to your morning cereal, baked goods and of course, they are wonderful just eaten as they are - there’s no wrong answer to the question of how to enjoy these fruits.

Tayberries also make a delicious dessert wine. With a beautiful red color not unlike that of pinot noir, the wine has a sweet and sour taste which is very appealing and pairs well with meats, especially red meats and game. It also goes well with strong cheeses and is quite reasonable, usually costing about $15 a bottle.

Besides it’s one of a kind flavor, the tayberry also contains a lot of nutritional value. Tayberries are a good source of vitamin C, bioflavonoids, folate, and fiber. The tayberry fruit and leaves are also employed as a home remedy for diarrhea.

Another home remedy using tayberry leaves (originally raspberry or blackberry leaves, but tayberry works equally well) is to chew the leaves as a cure for bleeding gums. The Scots have been using this home remedy for 2,000 years!

Tayberry can be used for many things from home remedies to food and wine. Definitely a different type of fruit and surely delicious you will be amazed at how many things you can make with it. Although tart in nature, many have used it to make pies, jams, and pudding. Sure there is a lot more that you can find in such an exotic fruit. It is really only limited by your imagination.

There are quite a few different types of chocolate. There is dark chocolates, milk chocolate, fair chocolate, and semi-sweet chocolate are just a a small amount of.
UK hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long tradition in Western culture and, previously, was done as a giving gesture, using the hamper to deliver food and other home necessities to the poor. The basket the hamper was displayed in was also carefully chosen as it was a handy household item that could be used and reused.

In later times, hampers have come to be less presents of essentials and more presents of small luxuries, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on the best items such as gourmet jams, expensive chocolates, exotic coffee beans, fine wines and other expensive items that can be enjoyed as a treat and will keep long enough for your special someone to take their time in using the hamper.

There has also been a rising tendency to produce specialized hampers - wine hampers that are filled with a diverse range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more new innovation and are filled not with food but with essential and wanted items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only limited by your imagination!

The versatility of UK hampers is why it makes such a perfect present. They can be modified to any special someone and can be filled with anything that would satisfy the recipient. When choosing the hamper you want to give, give careful consideration to what goods the recipient enjoys - are they a wine lover? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a foodie? Then fill the hamper with premium food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with useful baby products.

UK hampers can be used for any reason - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Xmas.

The Xmas hamper has become all the rage and, in an intriguing twist, the public are buying Christmas hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for other people. Often crammed with special Xmas treats such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Xmas pudding and even turkey, they are purchased by individuals to be used over the Christmas period. Many UK hampers are purchased on a payment scheme over the year and then used for the Christmas period, helping people pay for the expense of the loved Xmas treats desired during the Christmas period.

There are many of businesses that specialize in supplying hamper presents and many of them can be found quickly and easily online. Many of them will have pre-packed hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may allow you to personalize a hamper and fill it with items of your choice. Almost all businesses will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and thoughtful gift.

Of course, you don’t have to use a business to give a lovely hamper and it can be even more thoughtful to create your own. When creating a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Use helpful products and special products that the recipient may not consider to buy for themselves, to make it even more considerate. UK hampers also work best when filled with products that won’t spoil easily, such as white wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on putting in products that have to be kept cool or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure the recipient knows that the products must be used as soon as possible.

Whether you’re trying to find your babysitter a Christmas gift, or your sister a little Valentine’s Day gift, or your child’s teacher a Thank You gift, there are times when you have to come up with an idea that won’t break your budget. If your family is like most, your finances are bleak and gift giving is one luxury you can’t afford anymore.

When the budget starts to suffer, we start to rethink giving gifts. Yes, we want to show our appreciation to the people who support us and love us, but we just don’t have the money anymore. The answer goes back to the old days: giving gifts from your heart, using the talents you have, and you will never go wrong.

My favorite heartfelt gift is food, chocolate in particular. If you have a little bit of time, you can create some pretty fancy chocolate treats with very little money. A little bit of chocolate goes a long way when you use it to create nut clusters or coconut haystacks, or any number of fun, simple treats. Anyone would think you just paid a fortune when you present them with some pretty chocolate delicacies.

Most chocolate treats are relatively easy to make once you get the hang of it. You’ll find out which pans work best, which spoons you like, and how long to melt the chocolate on the first or second try. I especially like this chocolate treat because it’s something that most people would never dream of making for themselves.

Chocolate Dipped Coffee Spoons

If your gift recipient likes a nice, hot cup of coffee, then they’ll like it even better with a little spoon of chocolate. This is a gift that both men and women love.

This is what you’ll need:

Purchase some heavy duty plastic spoons. You may even wish to check out some flea markets or thrift stores for silver spoons that are pretty. Either way, make sure they’re nice and clean.

In the baking aisle of your grocery store, you will find milk chocolate coating. This is the chocolate you’ll want to use. Don’t use the Real Chocolate as it is way too fussy and you don’t want to worry about it not turning out right.

Candy sprinkles or crushed peppermint candies may be a nice addition if you want to make your spoons even fancier. You may consider flavor additives like peppermint oil if you think your gift recipient would like the flavored chocolate.

Purchase some parchment paper, NOT wax paper, to cool the spoons on. This will keep them from sticking to your cookie sheets as well as keep your pans clean and ready if you are into mass production.

You’ll need some clear candy bags to wrap your spoons. You can find these in the craft store with the candy making things. While you are there, look for some ribbon, raffia, and anything else you may want to dress up the packaging.

This is how you proceed:

Fill a large pan with water and bring it to a boil. While you’re waiting, carefully chop your chocolate into little pieces. Place your chocolate pieces in a smaller heavy pan that will fit into the large pan. When water boils, remove large pan from heat, and carefully lower the smaller pan into the water, being sure you don’t overflow the water. Let chocolate sit and start to melt, then remove from pan with water and begin stirring with a big spoon or spatula until chocolate is all melted.

After the chocolate has completely melted, start by dipping one spoon and carefully laying it on the parchment paper covered cookie sheet. If you are embellishing your spoons with candy sprinkles or peppermint pieces, decorate each spoon as you go so they don’t have time to set up. Otherwise the candy won’t stick. When all of your spoons are dipped, place your cookie sheet in a cool or cold area until chocolate is firm. The refrigerator or freezer will work, but take them out after only a few minutes so they don’t get moisture gathering on them, which isn’t good.

Now your chocolate is set and you are ready to wrap your spoons up. Begin by placing each spoon in a candy bag that you purchased. Tie a piece of raffia, or gift wrap ribbon, or other pretty material on each bag around the handle so that the bag is closed securely. You may wish to tie more ribbon or some decorations on the bag, even a peppermint candy cane, or anything that makes your spoon gift more festive.

Now that you’ve finished tying up all those pretty little gifts, aren’t you pleased with yourself? You have spent your time creating gifts that show you care. Instead of running out to the store to quickly buy yet another gift card, your gift shows that you took time to plan and make a very special someone a very special gift… straight from the heart.

If you have never seen them before, you might be a little concerned about trying gooseberries. After all, while these fruits look a lot like grapes and have a texture that is pretty similar, they are very sour. That can be shocking if you are not prepared for them. However, these berries are useful and popular in toppings, desserts, and more. You will not have to look hard to find gooseberry recipes online and in cookbooks. These little fruits are even good for you!

Though they are quite small, gooseberries pack a serious punch when it comes to potassium. A generous amount of potassium in your diet has proven to be amazingly useful when it comes to bringing down high blood pressure and taking care of the problems associated with hypertension.

Similarly, gooseberries also carry high amounts of vitamin A and vitamin C, a healthy portion of which is essential to healthy function. Gooseberries are often recommended to women who are pregnant due to these properties. In addition, because the vitamins come in an organic and natural form your body will assimilate it better.

So, how do you eat them? The simplest way is right out of the package. As mentioned above, these attractive berries are much like grapes, but without the seeds. That means that you can eat them whole, and that they can be used in gooseberry recipes without the time and fuss of deseeding.

If you do not like very tart fruit, you might want to try another serving option. For instance, you can split your berries, then sprinkle them with sugar, creating a sweet but healthy treat. Some people choose to add salt instead of sugar to this fruit, resulting in a sour and savory treat.

Desserts are another popular way to eat gooseberries. Dice a few strawberries and gooseberries, then simmer them with white wine, sugar, or fruit juices. Add a little potato starch and chill the result.

You will have fantastic thickened syrup that tastes great on crepes, waffles, and pancakes. This is very popular throughout Scandinavia and Europe. Another equally popular recipe is the delicious gooseberry fool. There are plenty of easy recipes for it online. Look on recipe sites for categories like “gooseberry recipes,” “gooseberry fruit recipes” or “gooseberries recipes.” You can even find recipes for gooseberries in more unusual places, such as sites advertising Jello recipes. Gooseberry gelatin is surprisingly good.

This is a terrific fruit to try if you are in the mood for something different, so try searching it out at your local grocery store or farmers’ market. They will range in color from pale green to reddish purple, and remember to ask for samples to see what you are getting in to as like grapes they can vary widely! There are many different ways to eat gooseberries, so take a look online, and find out how this fresh and surprisingly tasty fruit can suit you.

When it comes to decorations, Christmas is my favorite time of year - and cupcake decorations are no exception! Let’s face it - we all tend to indulge a bit more around the holidays, and everyone loves cupcakes - so why not make it fun and creative by trying some of the following Christmas cupcake ideas?

- If you’re wondering where to start, sprinkles are about the simplest method, all the year ’round. For a fast and easy way to make Christmas cupcakes, all you have to do is bake some cupcakes using your favorite recipe. Then, top with red, white, or green frosting; throw on some red and green sprinkles, and there you are - fast and easy Christmas cupcakes.

- The weather outside may be frightful … many, mini-snowdrifts-in-a-cup is the idea here. Top your little cakes with white icing (you can use red or green if you like) toss on some grated coconut, and dust them with powdered sugar. Who needs a horse and sleigh out in the cold … when these are a lot toastier - and tastier?

- Quick, easy Christmas trees - your local grocer should have an assortment of gel icing, in tubes - green or red are best, of course - but go with whatever color(s) you like. Top your cupcakes with white icing, and simply draw Christmas tree shapes on the cakes, using your gel icing. Try wavy lines, or simple triangles with basic trunks in drawing your trees … as always, don’t be afraid to experiment a little!

- This is one that will work for parties year-round - birthdays, holidays … not just Christmas. What we’re doing is creating place markers or party favors in the form of gift-wrapped packages in miniature on top of each cupcake. Vary your colors of frosting, use square/cubed candies to resemble boxes, and long, thin candy such as licorice for bows … your name cards are made from gift tags … can you say “hit of the party?”

- Snowman cupcakes … children will love these … cover the cake with white icing; put on a large marshmallow, then another small marshmallow on top. To keep everything together, put a toothpick through the marshmallows, all the way down into the cupcake. For your snowman’s face, use small candies for the eyes, mouth etc. - using a small blob of icing will help stop the candies from falling off.

- Christmas train centerpiece - your cars can be made from Tootsie rolls - but experiment with other, similar shapes. Any small, round candies make good wheels, and black licorice makes great train tracks. Use multiple cupcakes, side-by-side to form your train, and let that inspiration flow … you’ll be known as the “engineer” of Christmas cupcakes!

These cupcake decorations for Christmas are sure to make you a hit with family, friends, and at holiday parties. Enjoy the creative process, and of course, the yummy results! You can find your decorating supplies in a lot of places - grocers, party supply stores, even the corner convenience market (or try our recommended supplier.)
